Joint Commission Welcomes Six New Members to Board of Commissioners

The Joint Commission of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, announced six new members to its Board of Commissioners, effective January 1, 2025. As The Joint Commission’s governing body, the Board of Commissioners advises and strategizes to drive organizational success, according to a release.

Incoming board members include:

  • Brooke Mattern Buckley, MD, system medical director of Medical Affairs, Henry Ford Health, Detroit, Michigan; and chief medical officer, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Wyandotte, Michigan
  • Henri R. Ford, MD, dean and chief academic officer, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida
  • James D. Grant, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; adjunct professor, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Auburn Hills, Michigan; and attending anesthesiologist, Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, Detroit, Michigan
  • Vivian S. Lee, MD, executive fellow, Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts; and senior lecturer, Harvard Medical School, Boston
  • Ankita Sagar, MD, system vice president of Clinical Standards & Variation Reduction, CommonSpirit Health, Chicago, Illinois
  • Harsh K. Trivedi, MD, president and chief executive officer, Sheppard Pratt, Baltimore, Maryland

“The six new board members bring renowned expertise and leadership that will help The Joint Commission extend its mission,” said Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International, in the release. “Their diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we work together to enable and affirm the highest standards of healthcare quality and patient safety for all. I look forward to collaborating with our newest board members to address healthcare’s grand challenges, ensuring that all patients always receive the safest, highest quality and best value healthcare across all settings.”

Additionally, The Joint Commission has named Michael Suk, MD, chief physician officer, Geisinger System Services, Geisinger Health System, Danville, Pennsylvania, as chair, and Eric Langshur, founder and managing partner, Abundant Venture Partners, Chicago, Illinois, as vice chair of the Board of Commissioners, according to the release.

The Joint Commission’s Board of Commissioners consists of 21 voting members, including physicians, administrators, nurses, employers, quality and innovation experts, and educators, according to the release. The board includes representatives from each of The Joint Commission’s founding corporate members: the American Hospital Association, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American College of Surgeons and American Dental Association. Additionally, there are seven public/at-large members, and the president and chief executive officer of The Joint Commission serves as an ex-officio member with voting rights.
