Postoperative non-opioid alternatives receive separate reimbursement through 2027

The 2026 final payment rule for ASCs and hospital outpatient departments (HOPD) expanded the number of non-opioid postoperative pain relief treatment codes eligible for reimbursement under the Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction in the Nation (NOPAIN) Act. As of January 2026, there are 18 non-opioid alternatives available for separate Medicare reimbursement under the act, an increase from 11 codes that were eligible in 2025.
