My recent experience at an ASC was not just professional but deeply personal, as my oldest daughter underwent a major surgery. It was not quite an episode of Undercover Boss, where the boss pretends to be an employee, but closer to a secret-shopper visit—except this customer had a very personal stake. After nearly 30 years in the ASC community and visits to hundreds of centers, I found myself facing surgery from a very different vantage point. This time, my parental anxiety was far greater than anything I had felt as a patient or an industry professional.
