We are running a series of Q&As with ASCA’s Board of Directors to help our members get to know them better. Meet Mandy Hawkins, RN, CASC, CAIP, former president of the Board and chief executive officer of Three Hawks Advisors in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Q: How did you get into the ASC space?
Mandy Hawkins (MH): After a decade in the hospital, a friend reached out asking if I’d consider joining an ASC. At the time, I didn’t know much about the ASC community or what the role would entail, but I decided to take the leap, and I’ve never looked back. I quickly saw ASCs as a unique and vital part of our healthcare system, delivering high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care through dedicated and innovative teams. I was inspired and knew I wanted to be a part of it.

MH: Two of the greatest mentors in my life have been my parents. They instilled in me the values of dedication, loyalty, hard work and resilience. They taught me to never give up, to lead with humility, and to surround myself with people who share the same values and beliefs. Watching how hard they worked while still creating a wonderful and balanced childhood for our family showed me the importance of work-life balance and that success is measured not only by what you accomplish professionally, but also by how well you support and nurture those around you.

Q: If you could change one thing about the ASC community, what would it be?
MH: We have a passionate and dedicated ASC community, so it’s hard to change anything. If I could change one thing, it would be to strengthen collaboration and drive greater standardization across ASCs. A more unified commitment to share best practices could accelerate progress and elevate the entire industry.
Q: What excites you most about the future of ASCs?
MH: What excites me is technology and its growing role in healthcare. The rapid advancement of automation is already transforming day-to-day operations and will soon impact every corner of the healthcare system. ASCs are innovative, efficient and flexible, and are positioned to lead this transformation. As more procedures shift to outpatient settings, ASCs have an opportunity to redefine value, safety and patient experience.
Q: What legacy do you hope to leave in the ASC space?
MH: I hope to be remembered as someone who led with a smile, a spirit of innovation and a deep commitment to collaboration. If my work has contributed to building a more sustainable, high-performing ASC ecosystem, then I’ll know I’ve made a meaningful contribution.
